I began writing about music as a student at the University Of Glasgow, and whilst living in the UK interviewed artists such as Siouxsie & The Banshees, Coldcut, Wire, Swans, Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz) and more.
After moving to Australia in 2003, I started the Fat Planet blog to accompany the FBi radio show of the same name. The blog took on a life of its own and became widely read and recognised overseas as a source of news and reviews on ‘alternative world music’. In 2008, both The Guardian and news.com.au named Fat Planet ‘Best Blog For World Music‘. Much of the blog content is archived here on this site.
From 2008-2011 I wrote the Discontent music blog, which took the format of the Fat Planet blog and applied it to alternative (mostly underground electronic) music from around the world. Discontent was also home to a special mixtape series, featuring both my own curations and from artists such as Filastine and Pink Priest. All of the Discontent posts are archived here.
