Vagrant – a travelling gig series, a pop-up club-night with no fixed abode, an open-source platform for eclectic and experimental music. Part of the New Weird Australia initiative.
In 2009, I founded New Weird Australia – an initiative designed to promote and support new eclectic and experimental Australian music through a variety of unique projects. After running a series of live events in Sydney and Newcastle, I developed the ‘Vagrant‘ concept in 2012: a travelling gig series, a pop-up club-night with no fixed abode, an open-source platform for eclectic and experimental music.
Vagrant was designed to exist anywhere and everywhere – the name travelled from city to city and from town to town, but each instance of Vagrant was curated by local individuals and artists. The events were therefore connected by an ideology and the same approach to experimentation in Australian music – a unique open-source concept, where each event was defined by its participants, and supported and promoted by New Weird Australia.
