Last year, when I started to think about the artists that I was keen to have in the Provenance family, Vivian Huynh was an early addition to the list. I loved No Art and was a superfan of her solo work as Lovely Head. I’m stoked that Viv agreed to come on board, and doubly stoked to be releasing her new Lovely Head EP ‘Always’ on 21st October. The EP follows her collaborative release EP with Pendant earlier this year – stream the lead track ‘Show Up’ below and pre-order now at Bandcamp and iTunes.
Watch: Scattered Order ‘National Adjustment Scheme’ from Marks Of Provenance III – A Bushfire Fundraiser
The last few weeks have been so fucked up for so many of us. Here in Springwood in the Blue Mountains, the Gosper “mega fire” is being contained about 15 kms away. It’s been that way for the last ten days or so, and we’ve become a little too relaxed about the fact that we’re no longer in any imminent danger.
All the same, we’re the lucky ones – we’re safe and healthy and our house is intact. Of course, the same can’t be said for thousands of others. Becki Whitton and I have out together a Provenance fundraiser compilation, Marks Of Provenance III – A Bushfire Fundraiser, with all the proceeds going to the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities.
My program ‘Out From Under’ on London’s Resonance FM pushes Australian underground and experimental music further into the ether – and 2019 was a phenomenal year for wayward and warped local sounds.
The ‘Out From Under’ Albums Of 2019 playlist is up on Spotify, and features (in no particular order) tracks from this collective of artists, all shredding conventionalism in some form or another.
